I used to have gauges in the center eyeball vents, but you can only have two of them there..
Then, I wanted a couple more, and realized the car would look like a friggin' carnival ride with all those gauges. Not to mention the fact that it would attract unwanted attention.
So, this has been my project for the past couple of weeks:

I now have 8 "gauges" in a single din display panel...

And, here's how I set it up:

I got the display panel and the controller (more on that later) as a kit.
Comes with standard push buttons, but I found some cool metal ones, with green LEDs built in. I simply used resistors (not a pwm) to dim the LEDs to my liking, and the result was satisfactory.
For the panel, I took measurements, and had a bunch of plexiglass panels laser cut.
I drilled countersunk holes in one panel so I could attach the display with screws, and then I just glued a second panel on top of it to cover the screws, for a clean look.

There are 8 parameters you can choose to be displayed, and you can take logs as you wish via a serial cable.

The control box is located right by my left knee, secured with double sided tape on the back of the dash trim:

There are audible and visual warnings, as well as a shift light.

I set up all temps in Celsius, pressure in psi, and vacuum in in/hg. That's what I am used to.

The whole thing cost just about 300 bucks - I already had a WB, and an EGT probe.


Just wanted to share.. Thought it could come in handy for someone like me who does not want their car to look like a carnival ride..
And I can log it all..

i have to say the end results look pretty good but if you run a ms you can just buy that megaviewer thing and it does the same thing w/out all that extra setup
you just plug it into the box (from what i understand)
also, all that info down there is awesome but it's out of your peripheral vision - so if you are trying to glance over and see your afr or boost at wot for just a micro sec, you are now looking down and possibly crashing.....

I know I have a MLV and it's not very good.

Actually,no.

There are warnings for everything you want to display there. If you are reaching a threshold you have set up for, say, the coolant temp, a loud beep and bright LED comes on and the screen flashes the (for example) the coolant temp...
There are two warning thresholds for oil pressure; one for overall pressure level, another one for 3500 RPM and above.
There's also a shift light.

Also, if I had eight gauges spread all over the car, keeping an eye on them would require an assistant. And, that would be my wife.
Then I would have no need for any gauges. She does not let me go over 60 mph when she is in the car.

Every once in a while I pull up the AFR screen and watch that for abnormalities, that's all. Stays pretty much in the 12s under boost, and all's good.

What is MaxiDisplay, what does it do..



MaxiDisplay displays a total of 8 important parameters on the LCD screen and provides warnings - both audible and visual – at levels set by the user.

Since MaxiDisplay communicates directly with the sensors, the response is instantaneous. The optional Windows based software allows the user to display live data on a computer screen, and logs can be taken, as well.

MaxiDisplay is designed, programmed and manufactured by Hakan Caliskan.

Customization of the MaxiDisplay is possible to a certain extent, the intro screen may also be customized.

Alarms can be defined:
* Alarms are important. Think about it: we should be looking ahead at full throttle, instead of the gauges. You can only catch a glimpse of the gauges either when you just get on, or off the gas. So, what happens in between?
The pistons of a 4 cylinder engine move up and down 100 times a second at 6000 rpm. This should give you an idea how little time you have to react in case something goes wrong.
No additional cost for the alarms.

2 or 3 LEDs and simultaneous audible alarms are used for:
Egt Alarm,
Shift Light,
Boost Alarm,
Coolant temp, Oil temp, Oil pressure alarms, etc...



Sensors:
* Oil and Coolant temp sensors come with the kit.
* Act, Oil pressure, EGT probe (if needed for the setup) should be purchased separately.
* Wideband sensor and its controller should be purchased separately.
Example: Innovate LC-1 wideband, AEM wideband (with their respective controllers)
* Data such as Rpm, Tps, Duty Cycle and Boost (Map) are collected from the sensors on the engine. No additional sensors are required for these functions.

In cases where the vehicle is not equipped with a MAP sensor, that should be purchased separately, as well, to read boost.
We try to use all the existing sensors to save money for the user.
